The Sports Banquet
The Beyond the Hoop organization held it second sports banquet on May 25, 2010. The guest speaker was James "Skip" Speaks a former All Met player from Bladensburg high school, a Division I standout at Niagara university, and former draft pick of the Denver Nuggets. His speech on the importance of education was inspiring and was met with a lot of nodding heads. The banquet was a huge success with over one hundred and forty parents and players in attendance. The most heartwarming point of the night is when sixty-five current players were given our honor roll award for their academic work in school. We are proud of their achievements during the current school year. Beyond the Hoop loves basketball, but we love academic success even more...
